Five placement habits that quietly lose tower defence runs

Five placement habits that quietly lose tower defence runs

April 18, 2026 · Mikael Sørensen

After years of tower defence, I've noticed my losses rarely come from a tough wave. They come from lazy placement decisions I made ten minutes earlier. Here are the ones I had to unlearn.

The first is spreading towers evenly. It feels fair, but enemies travel a path, and your damage should cluster where they spend the most time — long corridors and sharp turns. Concentrate firepower where units linger.

Second: ignoring range overlap. Two towers covering the same tiny patch of road is wasted coverage. Stagger them so each one extends your kill zone rather than doubling up on a single corner.

Third, and this one hurt to admit, I upgrade too early. A fully upgraded single tower often does less than two cheaper ones covering more ground in the opening waves. Build your network first, then specialize.

Lastly, leave room for your support towers. Slows and debuffs are worthless if they fire too late. Put them at the entrance of a kill zone, not inside it, so your damage dealers get the full benefit.
